This great-value guesthouse in an appealing shade of cinnamon terra cotta is in a quiet neighborhood that is still within walking distance of many attractions and restaurants. The two standard rooms in this Victorian-era house are a bit small, but they are neat and very comfortable for the price; the so-called "deluxe" rooms have a bit more space. All the beds are extra long, and rooms have air-conditioning. There's a common lounge upstairs with an honor bar and a lovely sun deck with a mountain view.

The smell of wood polish, the creak of old floors, countless antiques, worn Persian rugs, dogs wandering at will, carved banisters, stained-glass windows, fireplaces, heavy chandeliers, old travel trunks, and gorgeous gardens . . . it all adds up to a scene that goes against the grain of Camps Bay's reputation for glitz and glam. In the original Manor House, rebuilt in the 1920s, history oozes everywhere. In its 4 upstairs suites, there's a real sense of Edwardian-era glamour, a chance to step back in time. There's access to a fabulous little spa with a few treatment tents so you can soak up the views while you're massaged. And although the main house is full of colonial-era quirks (and a few recently added design flaws, too), a short ramble across a bouncy swing bridge takes you to a collection of more-contemporary buildings, including The Deck, with 7 rooms, some of which have private hot tubs, and a number of villas that can be rented in their entirety if you're looking to accommodate a large family.

Built as a private home in 1771, this centrally located boutique hotel's spacious rooms are individually decorated, melding a rather eclectic collection of South African contemporary art with its historic architecture, and making the most of the building's teak-beamed ceilings, foot-wide yellowwood floorboards, and numerous other details that recall its gracious past. Some rooms have four-poster beds, others exposed brickwork, but each has its own special charm. Rooms overlooking the pleasant courtyard—complete with tables sheltered by what's claimed to be the oldest grapevine in South Africa—may be a little noisy, but the revelry theoretically stops at midnight. Parking (for which you have to pay) is across the street in a section of a public lot with good security, and friendly staff makes sure everything runs smoothly. Not to be confused with a similarly named hotel in Bo-Kaap that opened more recently.

Just a stone's throw from the Green Point stadium and the V&A Waterfront—and surrounded by restaurants and public transportation—the Cape Royale offers spacious apartment-style accommodations that make a great base for longer-term travelers. One-, two-, or three-bedroom suites, all with fully equipped kitchens and many with some kind of view, are roomy and luxurious with a clean, contemporary aesthetic. The Casuarina Spa downstairs offers fantastic treatments at competitive prices, and the rooftop pool and Sky Bar are a beautiful though not child-friendly place to spend an afternoon soaking in stunning 360-degree views with a cocktail or three. A free shuttle departing every 10 minutes from 8 to 8 takes you to the V&A Waterfront. Great bargains can be found online.

Independent travelers with a fondness for quirkiness love this place, which is a step up from sharing a dorm with other backpackers, especially if you don't mind late-night noise and want to be close to after-dark shenanigans (weekends can be seriously loud). Conceived as an ode to Cape Town's creative community, well-known local artists—including poet-author Finuala Dowling and architect André Vorster—were invited to decorate a room to their tastes and the results are fanciful. In the Photo Booth room, a huge portrait behind the bed is made up of 3,240 black-and-white photos of Capetonians, while a colorful room by the erstwhile fusion band Freshlyground has a bright red throw, portraits of the band members, and music. But it's not all about show—the amenities are all in place as well. The linen is crisp and clean, the staff is friendly, and the only real drawback, aside from the noise situation, is the dearth of parking.

Wonderfully vibrant and filled with colorful fabrics, themed wallpapers, and displays of artifacts and artworks that clearly celebrate a love of the continent and its people, this beautiful centrally located Victorian house is a place where you'll feel right at home and be perfectly situated to explore Cape Town. Utterly out of place between the tall apartment blocks, this squat mustard-colored guesthouse has great-for-their-price accommodations that are spic-n-span, cheerfully decorated, comfortable, reasonably spacious (and some very large), and several with views of the sea (which is directly across the street). Don't expect lavish service or a host of amenities, but rest assured that you'll be in good hands, and will also be saving a bundle by being here rather than at the V&A Waterfront which is a few minutes away. If you enjoy walking along the seafront, you also have Mouille Point's promenade, which segues into the Sea Point Promenade, directly in front of you. Do note that Mouille Point's lighthouse includes a foghorn that sounds—loudly and persistently—during certain weather events; there is nothing to be done about it, but if it's likely to mar your stay, rather head farther from this coastal strip.

This stylish, small-scale hotel is perfect for a quiet stay in a convenient location with a mix of comfort, artsy minimalism, and helpful service. Guest rooms come in different sizes, but apart from the deliberately named "S" unit with its in-room glass-wall shower, none is small, and all are cleverly designed to maximize space with a hint of African inspiration that's not gimmicky. Some have their own private decks, garden terraces, or direct access to one of the two pool and deck areas. This midsize boutique hotel on a quiet street in Sea Point is one part playful, Ibiza-inspired style—think orchids and a bright Greek Isle palette of white and turquoise—and one part elegant African touches. Rooms in the Victorian-style main building are very masculine with lots of wood, silvered surfaces, and Oriental carpets, while those in the so-called East wing come in neutral tones of white, silver, or taupe, and are airy and bright. Almost all of the East rooms have some kind of private deck or patio area, and most enjoy at least a partial mountain or sea view. Staff are incredibly friendly and happy to organize day trips and tours. Exuding something of a resort atmosphere, its public spaces, including two pools surrounded by chaises and partial views, encourage socializing among guests.

Built in 1892, this sweet, neat, and decidedly handsome little guesthouse (think leather, textured wallpaper, original pressed ceilings, and quirky antiques and art) is conveniently close to Green Point's main drag. This means you're within walking distance of restaurants and shops (including those in De Waterkant), Green Point Park (and Mouille Point), and the V&A Waterfront. It has everything you could need if your needs are straightforward (showers only, for example, and rather small bathrooms), and while there are no real views to speak of, there is a small pool, an outdoor lounging (and tanning) area (where you can also barbecue if you wish), a dining room where breakfast is served and where you can sit down to eat takeout. Guestrooms are a mixed bag in terms of size (the entry-level "deluxe" rooms are quite small, but cleverly put together), while superior rooms have balconies, and all the bedrooms are cleverly and quirkily decorated with thrifted furniture and personally sourced vintage bric-a-brac.

You won't find over-the-top opulence at Kensington Place, but you will experience a sense of restrained style and tranquil sophistication that permeates every nook and cranny of this guesthouse oasis in Higgovale (among Cape Town's most sought-after residential neighborhoods). Built on a seemingly impossible wedge of real estate and surrounded by a beautiful garden, inside you'll find a gracious lounge, shelves lined with books, a collection of fine South African art, just-right lounge music, pockets of privacy, great comfort, and attentive concierge services from hands-on managers. Suites—refined, spacious, and thoughtfully designed—are all equipped with king-sized beds, a patio or terrace, underfloor heating, and extras like a bluetooth speaker, yoga mat, and beach-ready bag.

This good-value hotel enjoys a great location between Mouille Point's seafront promenade and Green Point Park, and it's also just a 15-minute walk from the V&A Waterfront. The comfortable, well-proportioned, and cleanly designed rooms are bright and airy—mostly white with splashes of primary colors and a bit of a vintage-retro feel (with Ben Sherman toiletries)—ask for a sea- or mountain-facing room, either of which will have great views (they're better the higher you go). The downstairs restaurant Sotano serves tasty Mediterranean food and is an ideal spot for sunset-hour cocktails—many Capetonians who gather here often agree. Do keep in mind that the hotel is virtually across the street from Mouille Point's famous (and infamous) lighthouse, which is installed with a loud foghorn that, during weather events (mist, fog, or low visibility), can drone on all night, hampering sleep.
