The Chelsea Townhouse
26 Cadogan Gardens, London, Greater London, SW3 2RP, England
Why We Like It
Truly tranquil spaces are a rarity in London’s tourist hotspots, but despite its location—a stone’s throw from Sloane Square—parts of The Chelsea Townhouse feel like a countryside estate. Add a private garden square and it’s a Jane Austen novel realized.
Fodor's Expert Review
A stay in this elegant yet homey boutique hotel near Sloane Square gives visitors a taste of life as an old-school, old-money Chelsea resident. The feel here is very much of a private town house, albeit one with an excellent, accommodating staff. Bedrooms are furnished in tasteful neutrals, and a few have a working fireplace. Some are on the small side, but all are luxurious. There's no restaurant, but guests are welcome at the restaurant of the sister hotel around the corner. A garden lounge serves fresh breakfasts, brunch, and afternoon Champagne and cake. The charming staff has a nothing-is-too-much-trouble attitude and a genuine feeling of warmth toward their guests.
PROS
- Lovely traditional town house
- Attentive service
- Access to garden square
CONS
- No evening restaurant

Dining
The ground floor Garden Room is where The Chelsea Townhouse guests tuck into breakfast and all-day bites and drinks. It’s fashioned in the style of a mansion lounge, with comfy sofas and potted plants dotting surfaces. It’s common to find patrons parking up for the afternoon with a warm brew. For a more robust dining experience, Hans' Bar and Grill at the sister property serves modern classics like fish and chips and sirloin steaks. Summer’s especially nice to sit out on the patio and watch the wanderers of Pavilion Road.
Tip Save room at breakfast for the Chelsea buns on the buffet spread. These currant-studded cinnamon buns date back to the 18th century, and they’re baked fresh right here.
Drinking
Cocktails, fine wines, and premium spirits are served downstairs in an intimate lounge setting. There’s no need to change into your glad rags to visit—make yourself at home is the motto.
