4 Best Bars in Friedrichshain, Berlin

Background Illustration for Nightlife

Friedrichshain lays claim to some of Berlin's most celebrated nightclubs, including the legendary Berghain club. Nightlife is focused on and around Warschauer Strasse and Revalaer Strasse, with many alternative bars and clubs in the Urban Spree, an area of former railway maintenance buildings. During the day on many weekends, the Urban Spree doubles as a flea market and host to various events, including craft beer festivals and pop-up food trucks.

Berghain

Friedrichshain Fodor's Choice

In an imposing power station in a barren stretch of land between Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain (the name borrows from both neighborhoods), Berghain has achieved international fame as the hedonistic heart of techno music—it was originally a 1990s techno club called Ostgut. It's only open as a club on weekends (for 48-plus hours straight, from midnight on Friday to early Monday), though many international music acts pass through for concert performances during the week. It's become something of a local tradition to arrive on Sunday morning or afternoon and dance until closing. Upstairs, the slightly smaller (but by no means intimate) Panorama Bar opens on Friday at 10 pm and offers different beats; on the ground floor, the easier to get into Säule opens on Thursday at 10 pm. There's also a gay club, Lab.Oratory, and a smaller club with occasional events, Kantine am Berghain.

Holzmarkt 25

Friedrichshain
Constructed of recycled materials on the banks of the Spree, Holzmarkt attracts a range of ages (even families) who come to hang out and chill during Berlin's sunny (and not-so-sunny) afternoons and evenings.

Hops & Barley

Friedrichshain

Serving local and regional craft beer, this small brewpub offers a curated taste of seasonal varieties. The building was once a butcher's shop and is the kind of place you can walk in without knowing anyone, and make some friends before you leave.

Sisyphos

Friedrichshain

This sprawling adults' playground, located Spree-side in an old dog-biscuit factory in a former no-go neighborhood, has a cobbled-together feel: you'll find a sandy beach, a man-made pond with a raft in the middle, a camper van, and a number of wooden huts. The club is truly a late-night spot; don’t expect much to be happening here before 3 am.
