This small club in the historic district books jazz musicians and hosts jam sessions and live DJ sets. The cocktails are as good as the music.

The granddaddy of all the boho bars in Piazza Bellini was set up as a bookstore in the late 1980s and still has its own small publishing house and displays a variety of interesting titles, historic prints, and photos. Seats in the heated veranda are at a premium in winter, though many customers sit outside year-round.

This onetime delicatessen now serves its own flavored rum. Be sure to try the cinnamon-honey mix. There are tables outside on the piazza.

Inside, the cool chrome furnishings contrast with the old arched ceiling, but try to get a table out in the beautiful square in front of the Orientale University, where you can mingle with the city's students. A DJ spins tunes, and there's regular live music on the tiny stage.

The area's first listening bar–cum–modern speakeasy is backdropped by stylish, design-lit interiors and a top sound system with resident and visiting DJs behind the altar-like console tweaking the knobs of the bespoke rotary mixer into the early hours.

On a street populated by other bookstores, this one is turned into a bar at night, serving wine and cocktails to the sound of live jazz or the DJ's chilled selections.

A beautiful café and contemporary art gallery, Nea is a highly atmospheric spot to just hang out on student-filled Piazza Bellini, especially in fine weather at the tables outside or on the steps of the gorgeous university library.

Via Cisterna dell'Olio hosts the tiny but agreeably funky Superfly, with classic jazz on the speakers and a huge collage of punters' favorite albums lining the wall.
