Grand Hotel Amrâth Amsterdam
A stay at the former office of the major Dutch shipping companies ensures a surprisingly quiet stay in the city center: glorious from the outside, with stone and brick decoration, the hotel's public spaces and guest quarters retain the distinctive style and warm colors of the Amsterdam School, a Dutch version of Art Nouveau. Original sculptures, wood paneling, and stained-glass art remain in lounges and the lovely breakfast room. Recently, the hotel has lost some of its "grand" allure, and some rooms and areas could do with a refurb.
Book a guided tour with an art historian, who will help explain all the little design details in this National Monument.
