Maria da Mouraria

Mouraria Fodor's Choice

This small restaurant is one of the most authentic venues in Lisbon for listening to mournful and soulful fado music. On the site of the former house of famous fadista Maria Severa, the venue hosts regular concerts, sometimes luring big-name singers to perform. You can dine in the restaurant, which serves traditional Portuguese dishes, while you listen, or try your luck arriving just for the concert (but tables may be sold out).

Bar 1908

This hotel bar exudes a youthful upmarket vibe and features striking artwork by local street artist Bordalo II; the combination makes it a great spot to enjoy a cocktail, a glass of wine, or a beer. The outdoor terrace is another great spot for a drink and a bite to eat—the short menu includes snacks and burgers.

Dois Corvos Intendente Taproom

Intendente's cool factor was established with the opening of this taproom, a spin-off of the popular Dois Corvos brewery in hipster Marvila. The train-station-style map here lists an ever-changing array of beers, ranging from oat cream IPAs to dry-hopped sours to breakfast stouts.

O Pif

Both the indoor, heavily pink sitting area and the terrace outside at O Pif offer guests the chance to sip natural wines from small Portuguese producers. It also offers simple Portuguese snacks like black pork chorizo and fresh cheese.

Quatto Teste

An Italian and a Basque walk into a bar . . . actually, a couple from the two parts of Europe opened one, on what has turned into one of Lisbon's buzziest streets. Quatto Teste emphasizes high-quality cocktails (starting with the obvious ones from their native regions: Negronis, of course, and Kalimotxo, that Basque specialty made with Coca-Cola, Rioja wine, and raspberry). There are also Basque-style pintxos (tapas) and ciders on tap.

Topo Martim Moniz

This bustling rooftop bar has great views of the castle and the ancient neighborhoods that sit on the hill beneath it. It can be a little hard to find, but persevere and you'll be rewarded with fine views and a wide selection of drinks along with a lively young crowd.
