Cascais and Boca do Inferno

Once a mere fishing village, the town of Cascais—with three small, sandy bays—is now a heavily developed resort town packed with shops, restaurants, and hotels. Despite the masses of people, though, Cascais has retained some of its small-town character. This is most visible around the harbor, with its fishing boats and yachts, and in the old streets and squares off Largo 5 de Outubro, where you'll find lace shops, cafés, and eateries. Although the water is cold, the beaches are very attractive, from the packed sands in the center of town to wild and windy remote surf beaches and dramatic grottoes like Boca do Inferno.
