33 Best Hotels in Western Honduras, Honduras

Background Illustration for Hotels

All the international chains have set up shop in San Pedro Sula. In the city and elsewhere, you'll find a good network of smaller, less expensive lodgings with plenty of Honduran character. Accommodation in this part of the country is reasonably priced, even in the top-tier lodgings, even in tourist-heavy Copán Ruinas.

Terramaya

$$ | Av. Centroamericana at C. El Escribano, 3 blocks north of Parque Central, Copán Ruinas, Honduras

This newest in-town lodging in Copán Ruinas opened in 2010, courtesy of the friendly folks at Casa de Café, and it's another winner for them. Decor in the enormous rooms is minimalist with blindingly white walls and granite sinks. All rooms contain queen beds. The two downstairs rooms overlook their own private gardens. The hotel is perched on a hill and commands stupendous views. The balconies overlook the ruins below, although they are hidden by trees. You'll find a small library of travel and archaeology books here, much appreciated if you'd like to delve into the history of the region. As at the parent Casa de Café out on the edge of town, you can have your tired muscles worked on at a massage pavilion out in the garden.

Pros

  • Beautiful rooms
  • Well-appointed furnishings
  • Plenty of space

Cons

  • Steep climb up street if walking

Villa Real

$ | Parque Central behind cathedral, Comayagua, Honduras

A charming 18th-century house with a horse-drawn carriage in the entranceway houses a pleasant inn. Rooms here are an odd mix: some ooze colonial luxury, with hand-carved furniture, others are quite plain. (There is a price difference between the two, but the extra splurge is worth it.) Ask to see a couple before you decide.

Pros

  • Some very atmospheric rooms
  • Best restaurant in town

Cons

  • Some plain rooms

Yat B'alam

$ | Copán Ruinas, Honduras

You'd walk right by this place if you didn't know it was a hotel. The entry to this colonial-style building is arranged like a cobblestone street lined with a café and three upscale souvenir shops. The second floor housed a scant four rooms arranged around a second-floor patio. The comfy rooms contain tiled floors, dark-wood furniture, and wrought-iron accents. Two of the rooms face a busy street, but all windows here are soundproofed, so there's no street noise.

Pros

  • Soundproofed windows
  • Attentive staff

Cons

  • Smallish rooms
