La Cañada de la Virgen
More than a thousand years old, the former ceremonial site of La Cañada de la Virgin has been open to the public less than two decades. Guests today walk into the high desert ruins along the same road that surrounding Otomí communities traveled to celebrate important ceremonial dates, such as planting and harvesting.
It's about 25 miles west of San Miguel de Allende. If you are driving, head first toward Celaya and then, past the reservoir, toward Guanajuato. Then follow the signs.
