This solar-powered wilderness retreat brings luxury to the remote backcountry with six individual guest cabins, a lounge and dining yurt, a kitchen yurt, flush toilets, hot showers, and a wood-fired cedar hot tub. Meals are included and are one of the highlights of a stay here featuring gourmet comfort foods like eggs benedict, hot muffins, fresh fruit, beef tenderloin, ribs, chicken and lamb. A complimentary glass of house wine or beer is included with dinner and non-alcoholic beverages are also included. The 30-minute helicopter ride from Cline River, Alberta into the retreat is one of the most scenic in the Rockies---soaring over tall mountains, pristine alpine meadows, and glittering glaciers. Fortress Lake was stocked with Nipigon Coaster Brook Trout in the 1930s and the fish are prized by anglers. It's rare to catch a fish that weighs less than one kilogram (2.2 pounds); the lake record is 5.3 kg (11.75 lbs). The retreat has Orvis rods and reels, hip waders, boots, and aluminum fishing boats that are used to travel to anchoring locations. Experienced guides are available to accompany guests or to provide advice on the best fishing locations and flies; fishing is catch-and-release only. The retreat also has canoes and kayaks for paddling the lake and there are a few hiking trails around the lake. Packages at the lodge are for 4, 5, or 8 days and include return flights, accommodations, fishing, and meals.
