3 Best Places to Shop in Skagway, Juneau, the Inside Passage, and Southeast Alaska

This small but quaint bookstore carries Alaska titles, children's books, magazines, maps, and gifts. Its moniker is a throwback to the town name's former spelling. The owner, Jeff Brady, ran the local newspaper, the Skagway News, for more than 30 years.

A tiny gallery tucked next to the bookstore, Taiya River is operated by a multigenerational family of artists who create one-of-a-kind carvings and jewelry in wood, silver, and other materials. The black-and-white "Made in Skagway" sign in the window here and elsewhere makes it easy to support local artists and businesses.
