Laupahoehoe
After the devastating events of 1946, in which a tsunami raged ashore and 24 people were swept away, the once-thriving railway town of Laupahoehoe was relocated to higher ground. Now all that's there is a small museum, convenience store, and beach park. It's a quick turn off the highway and well worth it to see the memorial to the schoolteachers and children who died here.
