Sayville

Sayville is small-town, main street charm at its best. Once a major exporter of pine to New York City and oyster capital of the United States, prominent families built large Victorian homes here, giving the community a timeless feel. When the railroad arrived in the 1860s, thanks to its location on the bay and proximity for Fire Island, Sayville became a resort town with many now-defunct hotels. Today residents occupy these beautiful homes year-round and the area blends small-town simplicity with suburbia. Its quaint Main Street is lined with small shops housing unique treasures and off-the-runway fashions, old-style barbershops and modern salons and spas, and several restaurants. Ferries leave Sayville piers for Fire Island, a 30-minute trip across the Great South Bay.
