Townshend
One of a string of attractive villages along the banks of the West River, Townshend embodies the Vermont ideal of a lush town green presided over by a gracefully proportioned church spire. The spire belongs to the 1790 Congregational Meeting House, one of the state's oldest houses of worship. North on Route 30 is the Scott Bridge, the state's longest single-span covered bridge. It makes for a pretty photo and is once again open to foot traffic after a $2.35 million renovation.
