2 Best Hotels in Capitol Hill and the Arboretum, Seattle

Background Illustration for Hotels

For travelers looking to experience a real Seattle neighborhood, Capitol Hill is a terrific option. Close to Downtown, but with a unique scene of its own, "the Hill" offers character-rich bed-and-breakfasts in old mansions and oversized Craftsmans, run with flare by thoughtful proprietors. Airbnb also has a wealth of offerings in this hip neighborhood. Though many of the Hill's residents appear to be hipsters, pierced and tattooed baristas, and intellectual dilettantes, anyone of any age or background is welcome here if you come with an open mind. Seattle's historically LGBT neighborhood is chock-full of live-music venues, true foodie establishments, and little retail gems. While the Pike–Pine Corridor and much of Broadway are alive until the wee hours, most of the neighborhood's lodging spots are set in quiet, tree-lined side streets off the main drags.

Most B&Bs require multinight stays.

11th Avenue Inn Seattle Bed & Breakfast

$ | 121 11th Ave. E, Seattle, 98102, USA Fodor's Choice

The closest B&B to Downtown offers all the charm of a classic bed-and-breakfast (exquisitely styled with antique beds and Oriental rugs) with the convenience of being near the action. The owner has impeccable taste, and even the small den that holds two public computers and stacks of travel guides, brochures, and laminated menus from the best local restaurants is thoughtfully arranged and decorated. Modest-size guest rooms all have private baths. A full breakfast is served in the elegant dining room. Don't worry about using the wrong fork, though—despite its formal appearance, the inn is a warm, laid-back place. All bedrooms are on upper floors with no elevators.

Pros

  • Free on-site parking
  • Oozes vintage charm
  • Wonderful owner and staff

Cons

  • Although most guests are courteous, sound does carry in old houses
  • No kids under 12
  • Minimum three-night stay

Silver Cloud Hotel Broadway

$ | 1100 Broadway, Seattle, 98122, USA

For a typical mid-range hotel stay on Capitol Hill, this is your only option—and it does the job. The spacious lobby is comfortable and attractive; standard guest rooms are on the small side but have nice design touches, like tall wooden headboards and faux-granite desktops. The building's location doesn't provide any notable views (rooms on lower floors can be dark), but it does put you in the heart of the Capitol Hill scene.

Pros

  • A non-B&B option on the Hill
  • Central location
  • Some design flair

Cons

  • Immediate location is run-of-the-mill
  • Some rooms are a bit dark
  • Not a great value when high season prices spike
