Scarborough
About as uncommercialized a place as you could hope to find, this small beachfront and mountainside community is a conservation village, which means its residents are super-vigilant about unchecked development and committed to preserving the natural glory of the immediate surroundings. The village is directly adjacent to Cape Point Nature Reserve, and although you can't directly access the protected lands, there are wonderful walks in the mountains and along the beach that convey a similar sense of being in an unmitigated wilderness.
Many of the houses and cottages are holiday homes and much of the guest accommodation tends to be self-catering and available through Airbnb (be sure to select Scarborough in Cape Town, rather than its namesake in Yorkshire in the United Kingdom). If you have a car and enjoy peace and tranquility, this is a wonderful base to explore the rest of the peninsula.
