The Best Performing Arts Venue in Montserrat

Background Illustration for Performing Arts

Although Montserrat is better known for another kind of wildlife, Friday-night revelers lime in roadside rum shops scattered around the island, often spilling out on the street as part of the informal evening culture. There's no closing time, and many bars serve yummy, authentic local food. Salem is party central (the roadside sign says, "Welcome to fun and revelry"). Little Bay is being developed as the island capital (the government will remain in Brades); in season the Hot Spot is a collection of a dozen watering holes between the "town" and Cultural Center; Festival Village is a gathering of pop-up bars during festivals.

Montserrat Cultural Centre

The impressive, colonnaded Montserrat Cultural Centre and its 500-seat, state-of-the-art Sir George Martin Auditorium present craft demonstrations, folkloric and fashion shows, pageants, movies (with popcorn and hot dogs), and the occasional dance and theatrical performance. During intermission, check out the Wall of Fame (bronzed handprints of musicians who recorded or performed on Montserrat, such as Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Elton John, and Mark Knopfler).
