Best Western Hotel Scheelsminde

$$ | Scheelsmindevej 35, Aalborg, 9100, Denmark

Set in a historic mansion that dates back to 1808, this modest lodging may not add anything to the annals of great hotels, but it does offer clean, functional rooms with all the amenities one expects: Wi-fi, flat-screen TVs, and coffee facilities. Some rooms have been updated, have larger bathrooms, and are markedly nicer than others, so be sure to request one when booking. The hotel restaurant décor feels a bit retro, but the food is good, especially the plentiful buffet breakfast. There's also a bright indoor swimming pool.

Pros

  • Free continental breakfast
  • Helpful, friendly staff

Cons

  • Away from city center

Hotel Legoland

$$$ | Aastvej 10, 7190, Denmark

It may be a bit pricier than other area hotels, including the several other hotels run by Lego, but it is inside Legoland Village, and your room rate includes two days' admission to the park, as well as direct access to the park through the hotel so that you avoid the long lines at the usual entrance. Many of the colorful guest rooms overlook all the action. This hotel is beyond kid friendly: pictograms help children identify which room they are in, and rooms include the requisite Legos for kids of all ages to play with. The restaurant serves good meals, and at lunch and dinner, a children's buffet is also available. There's golf, tennis, and a pool nearby.

Pros

  • Family friendly
  • Activities for kids in summer
  • Access to Legoland included in rates

Cons

  • No in-room safes
  • Rooms near the bar get noisy
  • Pricier than other hotels in the area
