4 Best Bars in Tampere, The Lakelands

Jazz and blues music performed by top-class local acts, as well as the occasional international band or singer, is promised most nights (it's closed Sunday) in this relaxed and lively central bar. 

Founded in 1969 this Tampere institution is the best English-style pub in town (and traditionally popular with local expats), even as it conveys a very local Tampere feel. Drinks, including a good selection of English and other brews on tap and a very good selection of bottled beers, are served from an elegant curved wooden bar.   

Perched on top of Tampere's tallest building, the Solo Sokos Hotel Torni, this lively cocktail bar offers the best view in town to go with your drinks. The line for the elevator from the hotel lobby can extend a bit, especially on weekend evenings, but most punters seem to think it's worth the wait.

Located in the former Finlayson cotton mills, Plevna is Tampere's sole brewpub, serving a range of more than 20 beers and ciders, along with special seasonal brews, all of which are produced at the on-site Koskipanimo Brewery. The Czech-style setting of wooden tables and benches is also a convivial setting at which to tuck into something from the pub-food menu, including ample steaks, burgers, and fish dishes, as well as smaller snacks.
