Caltabellotta
Dramatically sited on a high rocky elevation, the inland village of Caltabellotta was where the Angevins and Aragonese signed the peace treaty that ended the Wars of the Vespers in 1302. Its lofty position provides a scenic route along country roads and a different point of view from the coastal highway. It also makes for a worthwhile excursion from Sciacca, with its striking 360-degree views over the village's gray roofs and the distant mountain landscape. The panorama is best appreciated from Caltabellotta's low-lying and fortresslike Chiesa Madre ("Mother Church"), situated at the top of the village and hunkered down against the fierce winds that frequently sweep across.
