Ragusa

City
ABOUT

Ragusa, with its undulating topography, is divided into two parts: a modern city (Ragusa Superiore) with some handsome architecture amid a modern mess, and a lower, unspoiled historic core (Ragusa Ibla) that is blessed with beguiling Baroque buildings and fabulous vantage points throughout the narrow, twisty, and steep streets. With its tiny squares and narrow lanes, the area was completely rebuilt after the devastating earthquake of 1693.

The city is known for some great local red wines and wonderful cheese—a creamy, doughy, flavorful version of caciocavallo. It also has some fabulous restaurants.
