The Best Restaurant in Amsterdam-Noord, Amsterdam

Although you'll have to take a ferry to reach this rather remote area on the north side of the IJ River (you can also cab it all the way—consider taking one from Centraal Station to save money; it'll be about €20 one-way), you'll be rewarded with prime people-watching and surprisingly satisfying international fare. Noord includes the former shipyard called NDSM (it stands for Nederlandsche Dok en Scheepsbouw Maatschappij), now a trendy area with a handful of interesting restaurants and hotels.

Café-Restaurant THT

Try to nab a spot on the terrace of THT—the theater café of the Tolhuistuin music venue—as its spectacular setting by the Amsterdam-Noord waterfront is a great place to chill out with a snack or a light meal. The rolls and pasta choices on the menu will satisfy traditionalists, while those wanting to venture "off piste" will also find much to like, especially in the form of the many plant-based offerings, such as vegan noodles or dahl (split peas cooked with spices) with naan bread.
