3 Best Hotels in Museum District, Amsterdam

Background Illustration for Hotels

If you've come to Amsterdam to enjoy the arts, then you should book a room in this quarter, home to all the city's top museums. Also here is the city’s most exclusive shopping strip, while the lovely green Vondelpark is just to the west. Little wonder that this area has been colonized by a large selection of mid-range hotels, with a couple of luxe and budget options thrown into the mix.

Catalonia Vondel Amsterdam

$$ | Vondelstraat 26, 1054 GD, Netherlands

Many things about this charming boutique hotel, close to the Vondelpark, instill calm, from the comfy, light-filled lounges and the lovely garden to the soothing guest rooms, which feature works of modern art mixed with more traditional touches like ornamental ceilings. Top-floor suites are especially nice and come with scenic views of the neighborhood, but beware the basement rooms, which tend to be small, damp, and dark. The restaurant, Joost, has a light and airy look and serves seasonal Dutch specialties.

  • Central location makes it great for walkers
  • Art-filled restaurant

Cons

  • Can be noisy
