Baixa has traditionally been better known for sightseeing and shopping than nightlife, but the esplanades that have sprung up around Praça do Comércio in the past couple of years have changed the area’s vibe. There are now plenty of chic cocktail lounges to be found among the traditional ginjinha joints, making it a good starting point for a night's barhopping. There are a couple of late-opening clubs here, too.

Drink mead from a ceramic mug, eat flaming chouriço sausage, and pretend you're back in medieval times at this offbeat tavern. There are flickering candles and live folk performances.
