Don't miss medieval Cáceres—boasting one of the best-preserved old towns in Europe—and Mérida with its immaculately preserved Roman amphitheater. Extremadura's other main towns—Badajoz, Trujillo, Olivenza, and Zafra—are charming (if a tad provincial) and virtually tourist-free.
