The Best Hotel in Southern Honduras, Honduras

Background Illustration for Hotels

Acceptable accommodation is sparse in this region, with the destinations we list each having, at best, a couple of decent hotels, and many of those having a small number of rooms. That makes reservations a good idea any time of the year. Remember also that many smaller places in this part of the country have no Internet access. You’ll need to call to make a reservation. The good news? Lodging is extremely reasonably priced in this part of Honduras. You’ll never pay more than $75 a night for two people—and usually it’s much, much less. Beach lodgings do raise their rates slightly on weekends during the dry season and during Christmas and Easter weeks.

By far, southern Honduras's snazziest lodging is this hotel—you can't miss it as you're coming into town from Tegucigalpa. The clientele is a mix of business travelers and travelers stopping here on their way through Central America. Although the place doesn't have a business vibe, Choluteca is primarily a business hub for this part of Honduras, so rates are discounted on weekends. Rooms are scattered among several buildings around this tree-shaded property, providing some relief from the heat. A nice pool, much-appreciated air-conditioning and high-ceilinged rooms help on that count, too. All rooms come with two queen-size beds, wood beams, and tile floors.

Pros

  • Refreshing oasis in sweltering Choluteca
  • Attentive staff
  • Good value

Cons

  • Rooms have a motel feel
  • Removed from center of town
  • Best to have a car to stay here
