5 Best Hotels in Cabo San Lucas, Los Cabos and the Baja Peninsula

Background Illustration for Hotels

In Cabo San Lucas, there's a massive hotel on every available plot of waterfront turf. A pedestrian walkway known as the Marina Golden Zone is lined with restaurants, bars, and shops. It’s anchored by the sleek Puerto Paraíso mall that curves around the entire perimeter of Cabo San Lucas harbor, itself packed with wall-to-wall sportfishing and pleasure yachts. Unfortunately, a five-story hotel complex at one edge of the harbor blocks a small portion of the water view and sea breezes from the town's side streets, but it can't be denied that Cabo is a carnival and a parade, all at once. The short Pacific coast beach just over the rocky hills at the west end of the marina has a more peaceful ambience, though monstrous hotel projects have gobbled up much of the sand here, too. If being right on the water isn't a primary concern, it is well worth checking out some of the smaller, independently owned hotels sprinkled around the downtown area. Several offer gracious, hacienda-style accommodations with a personal touch that huge hotels cannot match. For a tranquil setting close enough to all the action, opt for one of the resorts near Land’s End.

Casa Bella

$ | Calle Hidalgo 10, Cabo San Lucas, 23410, Mexico Fodor's Choice

The Ungson family had been in Cabo for more than four decades before turning their home across from Plaza Amelia Wilkes into the classiest and friendliest inn in the neighborhood. Second generation owner Bárbara is always on-site and gets to know her guests by name. Lush landscaping is threaded with meandering paths leading to the pool, gazebo, and terrace. French colonial furnishings are handcrafted and thoughtfully arranged, such as desks with plenty of books and replicas of works by French impressionist artists. The open showers in the huge tiled bathrooms are stunning—some even have little gardens.

Pros

  • Property feels totally secluded
  • Private home atmosphere
  • Extended stays are negotiable

Cons

  • No TVs or phones in the rooms, unreliable Wi-Fi
  • Minimal amenities
  • Not kid-friendly

Marina Fiesta Resort & Spa

$ | Marina, Lots 37 and 38, Cabo San Lucas, 23410, Mexico

Location, location, location: Marina Fiesta's may be the very best in town, and that, coupled with an extraordinarily reasonable nightly rate make it a top choice for an interesting mix of guests: fishermen, families, and college-age partiers. An optional all-inclusive add-on gives you unlimited access to not only the bars and restaurant on-site, but the neighboring venues that line a stretch of Marina Cabo San Lucas called the Golden Zone. It's a bit of a tourist trap, however, so true foodies are advised to spend their coin dining elsewhere.

Pros

  • Located right on the marina
  • Great value for the price
  • Close to everything

Cons

  • Subpar dining
  • Property is a little dated
  • Pushy about tipping
