Boyd's Cove
Between 1650 and 1720, the Beothuk (an indigenous culture know as the "Red Indians" to settlers due to the use of red ocher body paint) main summer camp on the northeast coast was at the site of what is now Boyd's Cove. The coastline in and near Boyd's Cove is somewhat sheltered by Twillingate Island and New World Island, linked to the shore by short causeways.
