The Best Hotel in Los Angeles, California

Background Illustration for Hotels

When it comes to finding a place to stay, travelers have never been more spoiled for choice than in today’s Los Angeles. From luxurious digs in Beverly Hills and along the coast, to budget boutiques in Hollywood, hotels are stepping up service, upgrading amenities, and trying all-new concepts, like upscale hostels and retro-chic motels. Hotels in Los Angeles today are more than just a place to rest your head; they're a key part of the experience.

True to Hollywood's character, the city's ambitious makeover has all the paparazzi swooning. Over a dozen new properties have broken ground in L.A.'s heart, most notably the first American outpost of Mama Shelter and the upscale Dream Hollywood Hotel, while nearby, those with deep pockets will go gaga over the city's most buzzed about openings—The James West Hollywood and the deluxe Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills.

If you have cash to spend, you'll find plenty of luxurious options in this edition. Nearly every major upscale hotel has a new look today, with the Mondrian, The London West Hollywood, Mosaic Hotel, and the Four Seasons at Beverly Hills leading the pack. For beachfront escapes, Terranea and Shutters on the Beach still remain at the top of Angelenos’ lists as the best spots for staycations.

On Santa Monica's busy Main Street, the Sea Shore (family-owned for five decades) is a charming throwback to Route 66 and to '60s-style roadside motels, nestled in an ultratrendy neighborhood. Just two blocks from a popular beach and bike path, this excellent value features rooms with tile floors, quadruple-pane noise-blocking windows, and basic amenities. The rooftop sundeck is a prime spot come sunset. Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus line passes out front. This hotel is popular in summer, so be sure to book early.
