Fans of Snoopy and Charlie Brown will love this museum dedicated to the late Charles M. Schulz, who lived his last three decades in Santa Rosa. Permanent installations include a re-creation of the cartoonist's studio, and temporary exhibits often focus on a particular theme in his work. Children and adults can take a stab at creating cartoons in the Education Room.

The late Rene di Rosa assembled an extensive collection of artworks created by Northern California artists from the 1960s to the early 2000s, displaying them on this 217-acre Carneros District property surrounded by Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vineyards. Two galleries at opposite ends of a 35-acre lake show works from the collection and host temporary exhibitions; the Sculpture Meadow behind the second gallery holds a few dozen large outdoor pieces.

"Land and People of Napa Valley,” a concise but well-mounted permanent exhibition on this hillside facility's lower level, surveys the people and natural conditions that have shaped the valley's history. Temporary shows in the main upstairs gallery often feature the works, some from the museum’s permanent collection, of local and regional fine artists.  The museum’s flagship location, The MAC—Napa Valley Museum of Art & Culture, is in St. Helena.
