Valle

$$$$ Fodor's Choice

Valle de Guadalupe has arrived in Oceanside thanks to executive chef Roberto Alcocer, who brings the flavors of Baja directly to the beach. This Michelin-star chef prepares eight-course tasting menus paired with the best of Valle’s robust wines. Since every detail is perfect, you won’t find salt on the table, nor will substitutes be considered. This culinary experience is worth every bite—and dollar—for an unforgettable evening that will likely last three hours. The seasonal menu focuses on charcoal-oven cooking and wood-fire grilling, and may feature local lobster, black cod, or Wagyu carne asada. For next-level dining, request the Chef’s Table dining experience every Tuesday through Saturday at 6:30 pm.

333 Pacific

$$$$

Directly across from Oceanside Pier, one of Oceanside’s few upscale restaurants specializes in seafood dishes and elevated comfort food in an elegant, art deco setting; it’s worth visiting for the ocean views and appetizers and sides like charred Brussels sprouts and lamb lollipops. If you're thirsty, start with a drink from the menu of more than 120 vodkas that make up exotic cocktails like the Spicy Pineapple, Key Lime Pie, and Pretty in Pink. Sweet tooths should save room for the passionfruit cheesecake with bourbon cherry glaze.

Flying Pig Pub & Kitchen

$$

This meat-focused eatery fills bellies with farm-to-table cuisine like bacon mac and cheese, and a 12-ounce pork chop served over house grits. Add a sunny-side-up farm egg to your burger, chop, shank, or homemade pasta, and if you’re into sauces, the chef is on point with lick-your-plate gravies with garlic, onions, and herbs. Burgers and sandwiches come with hot fries served in a brown paper bag, stylistically in line with the quirky-rustic decor made from repurposed materials. The Flying Pig is a member of the Slow Food movement, meaning food is fresh, not fast.

Harbor Fish & Chips

$

Pick up a basket of fresh-cooked fish-and-chips at this dive and you're in for a treat. The shop has been serving clam chowder, jumbo fried shrimp, and fish sandwiches since 1969. Trophies and photos of big catch are on display. Outdoor tables offer terrific views of the Oceanside Marina. Early risers and late-night diners should look elsewhere since this spot opens at 11 am and closes at 7 pm.

The Plot

$

Zero waste with root-to-stem consumption has this plant-based restaurant turning beets into catchup, cashews into cheese, and carrot tops into pesto. Sustainability rules the menu created with fresh produce from local farms and the regenerative gardens out back. Tastebuds are in for a pleasant surprise with the Kombu cauliflower, the Cubano (mojo marinated shredded jackfruit), and the kimchi bowl with red-lentil "spam." Weekend brunch rolls out “chicken” and oat-milk waffles along with other classics with a healthy spin like “sausage” and biscuits. If you can’t finish your meal, never fear. Leftovers are composted and nothing goes to waste, including veggie stock that makes its way into risotto and banana peels turned into tacos.
