3 Best Hotels in Lincoln Park and Wicker Park, with Bucktown and Logan Square, Chicago

Background Illustration for Hotels

Three miles of lakefront parkland draw people to the Lincoln Park neighborhood—and most hotels here are just blocks away. Room rates are decidedly lower than those downtown, the downside being that you'll invest more in transportation to hit top sites. Parking is easier, but never a snap; plan on using the valet. Wicker Park attracts an artsy mix of young couples and singles who can't walk more than a yard without stumbling into a mom-and-pop-owned fast-food joint or a four-star restaurant.

The Hotel at Midtown

$$ | 2444 N. Elston Ave., Chicago, IL, 60647, USA

Far from just a generic amenity, the fitness facilities are the raison d’être at this independently owned Bucktown property; after all, it got its start as a tennis club that’s hosted the likes of Billie Jean King and Venus Williams (who kindly pitched in and designed a lounge when the club was overhauled and the hotel added in 2017). The multistory facilities and class offerings are impressive---think sunrise rooftop yoga and spinning, a heavy bag boxing gym, two sleek pools, and a virtual driving range, to name but a few. And the coolest feature is that they’re all open to hotel guests—with the $45 resort fee, that is. (Spa treatments and personal training sessions not included.) Throw impressive skyline views and slick mid-century guest rooms into the mix, and you’ve got a seriously unique spot to rest your head.

Pros

  • Modern, stylish bathrooms
  • Child care available
  • Food and amenities from local businesses

Cons

  • No convenient 'L' stop
  • All common areas shared with fitness club members
  • Some noise from fitness facilities

Hotel Lincoln

$ | 1816 N. Clark St., Chicago, IL, 60614, USA

Guest rooms are in need of updating, but on the whole, there's a lot to love about this historic property, starting with a cool, kitschy vibe that feels authentic. And then there's the location, so close to Lincoln Park that guests can practically roll out of bed and into the zoo. Make a point to head up to the J. Parker rooftop lounge; the food and cocktails are only okay, but the view is one of the city's best. Other dining options range from locally made pastries at casual Elaine’s Coffee Call to lavish 17-course feasts at Sushi Suite 202, an omakase “speakeasy” secreted inside a converted guest room. For the best views, request a room on the ninth floor or above, facing east toward the park and the lake.

Pros

  • Pet-friendly
  • Great residential neighborhood
  • Authentic vintage Chicago feel

Cons

  • Noisy a/c units
  • Small and dated bathrooms
  • No spa

The Robey Chicago

$$ | 2018 W. North Ave., Chicago, IL, 60647, USA

Located in the heart of Wicker Park, this boutique luxury revival hotel has curated art deco features, a mazelike layout, and two very distinct categories of rooms: Tower Rooms, which are snug but strong on mid-century style, and industrial, family-friendly Annex Lofts. Public areas serve as a second living room for local young professionals gathering material for their next Instagram reel; don’t miss the Up Room, a 13th-floor lounge serving cocktails and an eyeful of skyline. Come summer, soak in the scene, and cool off in the tiny pool at the rooftop Cabana Club. Following a 2024 makeover that channels dolce vita vibes (think freely flowing Aperol spritzes and Mediterranean bites), the club is open to the public via day pass, but Robey guests get complimentary admission and dibs on early morning dips.

Pros

  • Seasonal rooftop
  • Scene-y brunch spot
  • Design lovers' dream

Cons

  • A bit of a trek to downtown
  • No spa
  • Small rooms
