This Japanese hype donut shop housed in an open-floor space offers heavenly-soft donuts in a variety of flavors, including several New York City-exclusive options like the pistachio white chocolate glazed donut. The original donut is airy and slightly chewy on the inside, with a delicately crisp outer layer---a must try that pairs perfectly with a hot cup of coffee. The store opens at 10 am, but there will probably be a line by then.
Pastry chef Eunji Lee’s exquisite creations at Lysée are easily New York’s most stunning desserts. Infused with Korean flavors—like toasted brown rice—and crafted with French techniques, each confection is edible art—especially her signature corn cake covered with delicately piped kernels of corn mousse. Grab one to-go from the minimalist bakery upstairs or savor four decadent delights by reserving the prix-fixe in the downstairs dining room.
At this Brooklyn import, one can’t go wrong choosing between a “heavenly brownie,” the beautiful cakes and pies on display by the slice, or the approximately 18 differently flavored macarons, each in a more eye-catching color than the last. Several Brooklyn restaurants have Steve's Authentic Key Lime Pie on their menus, but this little, long-running shop on the waterfront is the source, where key limes are squeezed fresh to make the creamy tart pies—just as founder Steve Tarpin did during his youth in South Florida. The large 10-inch pies serve eight, but there are also individual 4-inch versions, in addition to frozen treats on a stick—perfect to take with you as you walk to the view of Lady Liberty at the Valentino Pier just outside.
