Hotel Dylan

$$$ | 320 Maverick Rd., Woodstock, NY, 12498, USA
While the peace sign logo at this fun and funky lodging nods to its 1960s inspiration, the 11 generously proportioned rooms, decorated by HGTV design duo Courtney and Robert Novogratz, eschew tie-dye fabrics and hemp wall hangings for a more sophisticated take on the era. There are bright pops of yellow and blue here and there, but the prevailing color is a relaxing creamy white. It's no surprise that the place is a music-lover's paradise—not only are there Crosley turntables and a supply of vinyl records in each room, there are also underwater speakers in the pool. The excellent restaurant, Santa Fe Woodstock, serves modern Mexican fare and calls to mind another community with a bohemian atmosphere.

Pros

  • Fun vibe
  • Mountainside location
  • Pretty pool (not common in this area)

Cons

  • Motel-style rooms
  • Building lacks charm of others in area

Woodstock Way

$$$ | 10 Waterfall Way, Woodstock, NY, 12498, USA
While cabins have names like Electric Lady and Vinyl, and throw pillows stitched with words like "love" and "peace," the decor at this cluster of cozy cabins on more than two wooded acres just steps from the center of town is a fresh and modern take on Bohemian. Rooms are furnished with a carefully chosen mix of contemporary and antique furniture and art and outfitted with plush bedding, flat-screen TVs, fully stocked kitchens, and wood-burning stoves, and somehow retain all the character, charm, and relaxation of an escape to the woods, without the inconvenience of actually being in the woods. A favorite of the four cabins is the two-level Lone Wolf, which has a wood-burning stove for chilly evenings, a stone chimney, and hand-hewn beams. Another stunner is the Waterfall, with a huge window and a private deck overlooking a private swimming hole.

Pros

  • Every room is unique
  • Relaxing setting
  • Easy walk to everything

Cons

  • No breakfast
