It’s worth venturing a bit outside town to visit Magnolia Pearl, a unique shop in a multistory barn that features the eclectic designs of San Antonio native Robin Brown, the owner/designer whose elevated shabby chic and collectible pieces, made with distressed fabrics and a purely Texas twist, have been called “farmhouse boho chic, a mashup of Alice in Wonderland and Oliver Twist."  A favorite of celebrities like Taylor Swift and Johnny Depp, everything is quite pricey, but if something catches your eye, be warned: it will be hard to resist!

The Old Mill Store

The Old Mill Store specializes in handmade and hand-crafted pieces made by local artists and craftspeople, including jewelry, hand-carved boxes, whimsical leather goods, coffee tables, consoles, and so much more. Oro Bianco Italian Creamery

This bright and airy shop is a perfect place to stop and grab a buffalo mozzarella sandwich for lunch, or a scoop of homemade gelato, also made from the milk of a herd of water buffalo that graze over two ranches in the Hill Country. There is outdoor seating on a spacious back patio and a small Italian grocery selling cured meats, cheeses, and other specialty food items, as well as books, kitchen tools, and coffee. Bring the family, because you can often find a few water buffalo grazing out back. Oro Bianco Italian Creamery now has outposts in Blanco, Dripping Springs, and Fredericksburg.

Originally a popup, this tiny stone storefront with outdoor seating is where owner Christina Harman, inspired by her love of the Amalfi Coast, whips up her small-batch Italian ices and gelato made with locally sourced ingredients. You come here for the beautifully crafted custom leather goods made by Seth Stidham, from belts to briefcases to saddles (!), and stay to gawk at the workshop and gallery that exhibits the highest level of skill and artistry. Commission a very special handmade belt, pick up a hand-painted Western tie, or find a piece of turquoise jewelry or piece of art to hang on your wall.

Studebaker Farms

This small roadside peach stand is continually working with state and national horticulturists and scientists to improve production. They carry more than 30 peach varietals throughout the year, including their own. It's cash-only, so be sure to bring some along.

A big ole taste of Texas awaits at this delightful gourmet food shop, also known as Rustlin’ Rob's Texas Gourmet Food. The shop features a vast and irresistible range of hot sauce, salsa, jerky, preserves, and rubs and spices, almost all made in Texas. As a nod to Fredericksburg’s German roots, they also offer spices for German mulled wine. Find a perfect gift—the Dynamite Chili Fixins and Cornbread bundle is a standout—but you will likely end up taking something home for yourself, too.

Texas Salt Co.

Light, bright, and filled to the brim with just about every iteration of Texas salt imaginable: smoked salts, spicy salts, culinary and cooking salts, beer and cocktail salts, and the coup de grace: cowboy salt, which is cold-smoked over hardwood, with garlic and fresh rosemary, perfect for finishing meat and seafood. You can also find great gift sets, candles, and a few kitchen accessories. The salt is smoked over bourbon barrels, and it's so good that it's honestly a little addictive.

A straight-up cowgirl vibe permeates this well-curated shop filled with blingy jewelry, woven purses, cheeky Texas-themed T-shirts, and truly unique clothing with some vintage mixed through, in a Stevie Nicks mode. This family orchard, established in 1953 by George and Nelda Vogel, offers a variety of homemade products, including delicious peach butters, peach preserves, and other fruit jellies. Try a scoop of homemade blackberry or peach butter ice cream before hitting the road with a box or two of Vogel peaches in tow. Or, if you prefer, have them shipped.

Western Trail Antiques & Marketplace

Their motto is “Show Us Your Boots,” and if it’s vintage boots you want, you can find plenty of them—and much more—at this antique marketplace.
