The outdoor pool is one of the largest around, and handy amenities include a guest laundry and a general store with a deli and bakery. Zane Grey, the famous Western novelist, used to rent an 1892 cabin on the grounds.

The Rim Rock Inn

On a bluff with outstanding views of red-rock palisades, this motel with clean, basic, and reasonably priced rooms (a basic breakfast is included) is one of the closest to the western entrance of Capitol Reef National Park. There are two restaurants on premises, one serving steaks and upscale American fare, and another more casual spot with good pizza and barbecue and a patio with fabulous red-rock views.

Torrey Schoolhouse B&B Inn

One of the more interesting and historic lodging options in the Capitol Reef region, this stately three-story building with thick sandstone walls served as the local schoolhouse from 1917 to 1954 and has been transformed into a romantic inn with rooms individually decorated with a mix of antiques and newer pieces. Fragrant flower gardens surround the property, and common spaces include a large living room and, on each floor, a kitchenette.
