The Hardwood Hill
Built in 1937, this fully renovated roadside motel has been given a distinct artsy, boutique upgrade by a foursome of new owners, three of whom are working artists, which translates into a sculpture garden out front, regular workshops by a resident artist, and performances on the red stage on the vast, hammock-dappled back lawn. Rooms are constrained to historical dimensions, but feel fresh, modern, and modestly stylish.
