2 Best Hotels in South Lake Union, Seattle

Background Illustration for Hotels

The South Lake Union area is going through a rather radical transformation. For years it was an industrial, forgotten part of town with few businesses or restaurants. With several high-profile companies moving in (including Amazon, which has such a major presence that the neighborhood is nicknamed Amazonia) SLU is rapidly becoming a hub of new condos, business high-rises, and amenity development. Though the variety of lodging options currently underwhelms, several new hotels are slated to be built in coming years. And while it bustles during the workweek with throngs of badged techies staring at their phones, parts of South Lake Union can seem like a ghost town during the evening and weekends. Stay here and you'll be close to both Downtown and Capitol Hill.

Level Seattle

$$$ | 110 Boren Ave. N, Seattle, 98109, USA

Level Seattle–South Lake Union caters to longer stays, with each room equipped with a full kitchen, washer, and dryer, though short-term guests are equally welcome. The property’s amenities feel more like those of a luxury apartment complex than a hotel: three pools (one indoor with a cold plunge and hot tub, two on rooftops), a sprawling gym with a basketball court and climbing wall, outdoor barbecues and fire pits, a playground, and multiple game rooms.

Pros

  • Apartment-like facilities
  • In-room kitchen and laundry
  • Spare, modern design

Cons

  • Limited housekeeping
  • Can feel understaffed
  • Street noise on lower levels
