Briar Rose Inn

$ | 314 W. 11th St., Vancouver, 98660, USA

This handsome 1908 Craftsman-style bed-and-breakfast is in downtown Vancouver, a short walk from several good restaurants, bars, and shops, on a quiet street surrounded by perfectly manicured gardens. The three rooms are elegantly furnished—the more masculine Hemingway Room, with its darker palette, has a private bath. Two other lacier, floral-inspired rooms, one with a king bed and fireplace, and the other with two twins, share a bathroom and are popular with families. Proximity to Interstate 5 makes the 8-mile drive to downtown Portland a snap, and the inn is also convenient to Portland International Airport and the main route leading into the Columbia Gorge. A substantial full breakfast is included.

Pros

  • Terrific value
  • Beautiful gardens and patio
  • Within walking distance of downtown Vancouver shops and restaurants

Cons

  • The frilly, period decor isn't for everyone
  • 20-minute drive from downtown Portland
  • Two of the rooms share a bath
