6 Best Hotels in Spokane and Eastern Washington, Washington

Background Illustration for Hotels

Family-owned motels and budget chains are prevalent in small towns like Colville, Grand Coulee, Moses Lake, Omak, Pullman, and Soap Lake. More of these properties are updating their amenities to include modern touches such as flat-screen TVs; others can feel dated, but at least the prices are reasonable, except during special events when demand spikes create rate hikes. Several pleasant bed-and-breakfasts with friendly innkeepers are found in Spokane, Walla Walla, Dayton, and Uniontown (near Pullman), but with no more than six suites at each it's usually necessary to call ahead for a reservation. There are several historic hotels built in the early 1900s and restored in recent years that are definitely worth visiting in Spokane, Walla Walla, and Dayton. The Inn at Abeja, just outside Walla Walla on a historic farm site, offers unique, high-end lodging. A stay at the Cave B Resort by the Columbia River—in one of its cliff houses, cavern rooms, or luxury yurts—is a recommended destination experience, too.

Inn at Abeja

$$$$ | 2014 Mill Creek Rd., Walla Walla, 99362, USA Fodor's Choice

Set on 35 acres of gardens, lawns, and vineyards, the incredibly stylish, beautifully furnished guest cottages and suites have a serene, relaxing, and secluded feel. With names like the Bunk House and the Chicken Coop that pay homage to their use on the original circa-1900 farm, each accommodation is luxuriously appointed and architecturally stunning. The two-story Hayloft Suite, for example, has a grand staircase that leads up to the light-filled living area and a large outdoor deck with expansive views, while the Carriage House Suite has sitting areas on all three levels and two bedrooms with private baths. The huge five-bedroom Farmhouse can accommodate up to 10 guests. Abeja also has its own estate winery and guests are welcomed with a glass of wine on arrival. The Kitchen at Abeja, led by chef Jake Crenshaw, offers several dining choices for guests, including a multicourse prix fixe dinner in the dining room, box lunches, artisan shared plates, and dinner delivered to your suite.

Pros

  • Two-course breakfast can be delivered to your room or the patio
  • A short drive to both downtown Walla Walla and valley wineries
  • On-site dining at the Kitchen of Abeja

The GG Walla Walla

$$$$ | 922 Bonsella St., Walla Walla, 99362, USA

This luxury inn a block from Whitman College was opened in 2022 by twin sisters, Connie and Karrie, who bought the 1909 Arts and Crafts–style mansion that previously operated as the Green Gables Inn and quickly set out to transform it with their new vision of social connection and showcasing their art and antique collections. It sits among flowering plants and shrubs on a quaint, tree-lined street and offers five freshly decorated guest suites. The LV Suite has its own Louis Vuitton trunk (Carrie is a collector and her Louis Vuitton items are lovingly displayed throughout the house), while the Green Suite pays homage to the house's original owners, the Greens. The unique Beverly Hills–style Cabana is for groups, with four double beds and a kitchenette. Guests are welcomed with a glass of champagne and tour of the home, and can arrange the services of the on-site chef for dinners if they'd like.

Pros

  • Very friendly and communicative hosts
  • Lots of opportunities to socialize with other guests
  • Delicious gourmet breakfasts

Cons

  • No pets or children
  • Only open part-time
  • Not for people who don't want social interaction
