38 Best Hotels in The Olympic Peninsula and Washington Coast, Washington

Background Illustration for Hotels

The Olympic Peninsula offers an array of lodging options, from Cape Cod–style cottages and rustic cabins to midrange motels, timber-lined lodges, and Victorian-mansions-turned-bed-and-breakfasts. Many offer beach access or views of the water or mountains—or both. It's most difficult to find rooms during holidays and festivals. Winter and shoulder seasons typically offer the most economical prices. Skiers, snowboarders, and day hikers headed to Hurricane Ridge might opt to use Port Angeles as their home base. For gourmands, history buffs, and maritime enthusiasts, Port Townsend offers numerous Victorian-themed B&Bs and hotels as well as inns and motels with bay views. Those seeking peace and quiet might consider accommodations in Sequim. The Washington Coast and Long Beach Peninsula are the best destinations for winter-storm watchers and beachcombers.

Palace Hotel

$$ | 1004 Water St., Port Townsend, 98368, USA

In a former bordello that retains its 19th-century grandeur, this reasonably priced inn has light-filled rooms—many named for the women who used to work here—that feature 14-foot ceilings, towering windows, and elegant period furnishings like hand-carved dressers, wrought-iron bed frames, and big claw-foot bathtubs. A corner suite retains its original fireplace and a fainting couch. Grand sitting areas anchor all three levels, and the mezzanine has a balcony overlooking the entryway and a circular ceiling mural.

Pros

  • Evokes Port Townsend's rich history
  • Steps from downtown shops and eateries
  • Full kitchens in many rooms

Cons

  • Limited number of spaces in parking lot
  • Central location can get noisy
  • No elevator
