The Best Hotel in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

Background Illustration for Hotels

Park lodgings range from two magnificent old hotels to simple cabins to bland modern motels. Make reservations at least two months ahead for July and August for all lodgings. Old Faithful Snow Lodge and Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel are the only accommodations open in winter; rates are the same as in summer. Ask about the size of beds, bathrooms, thickness of walls, and room location when you book, especially in the older hotels, where accommodations vary and upgrades are ongoing. Telephones have been put in most rooms, but there are no TVs. There are no roll-away beds available.

Roosevelt Lodge Cabins

$$ | 100 Roosevelt Lodge Rd., Yellowstone National Park, WY, 82190, USA

Near the beautiful Lamar Valley in the park's north-central reaches, this simple lodge in a pine forest dates from the 1920s and surpasses some of the park's more expensive options when it comes to rustic tranquility. Some cabins have bathrooms, but most do not, though there is a bathhouse nearby. Roughrider cabins may have woodstoves as the only heating system. Horseback and stagecoach rides are among the hotel's activities, and there's a charming old restaurant on-site.

Pros

  • Closest cabins to Lamar Valley and its world-famous wildlife
  • Authentic Western-ranch feel
  • Some cabins are quite affordable

Cons

  • Cabins are very close together
  • Most cabins lack private bathrooms
  • Cabins can be chilly at night
