Hotel Unique

$$$$ | Av. Brigadeiro Luís Antônio 4700, São Paulo, 01402–002, Brazil Fodor's Choice

The hotel's unique and bold design catches the eye. It's a project created by the acclaimed architect Ruy Ohtake and is one of the most luxurious and sought-after hotels in São Paulo. Those who have the opportunity to visit the hotel are even more impressed: on the rooftop, there's a trendy restaurant (open to the public) with an iconic red pool (for guests only). At check-in, you are greeted with Veuve Clicquot and taken to one of the 87 rooms, completely renovated in 2024, all featuring cutting-edge technology and automation. The lights turn on at the touch of your feet on the floor. The rooms have extremely comfortable king-size beds and bathtubs, all in an elegant style. The TV, when turned off, looks like a perfect mirror, and there's an integrated ambient sound system.

L'Hotel PortoBay São Paulo

$$$$ | Alameda Campinas 266, São Paulo, 01404–000, Brazil

Compared to the top-of-the line chain hotels on Paulista, L'Hotel PortoBay São Paulo stands out as a truly special experience. Though the famous Parisian hotel of the same name is its declared muse, the luxury here is understated rather than decadent. The Mediterranean dining room and the English-style piano bar that faces it are twin gems. The top-floor pool has a retractable roof, the Japanese ofuro baths are heated upon request, and every guest gets a pair of brown and gold Havaianas flip-flops. The hotel underwent a complete renovation that began in 2023, encompassing its bar, restaurant, and all rooms, and was completed in mid-2024.

Pros

  • Small number of rooms makes for personalized service
  • L'Occitane bath products
  • Close to some of the city's best restaurants, bars, museums, and shopping

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Pool can be crowded
  • Room service a bit slow
