Background Illustration for Sights

Búzios boasts 23 beautiful beaches, which can be reached by schooner boat trips or speedier taxi boats. There is a taxi boat "terminal" on Orla Bardot, with skippers ready to whisk passengers off to any of the beaches on the island. Prices are per person and start at R$7 to get to the closest beaches, rising to around R$30 for farther-flung sands. There's a minimum two-person fare but solo travelers can wait for others to come along and bump up the numbers. Schooners depart from the end of a small pier nearby and take groups on beach-hopping trips that might last from a couple of hours to a full day. Prices start at around R$40 per person for a two-hour trip, rising to around R$150 for a full-day trip with stops for swimming and snorkeling.

Praia da Ferradura

Ferradura Fodor's Choice

Located 1.5 km (0.9 miles) from Buzio's center, Praia da Ferradura has calm waters, making it a perfect choice for families with children. The beach adjoins one of Búzios' most exclusive areas, as some mansions back right onto it. On the left side, there are bars with parties, lounges with umbrellas, and barracas (simple makeshift kiosks selling food and drink). On the right, there are secluded spots to enjoy a quiet day. Amenities: food and drink; toilets; water sports. Best for: swimming; walking.

Praia João Fernandes

João Fernandes

Praia João Fernandes and the smaller adjoining beach, Praia João Fernandinho, are a short taxi boat ride from the center of town; both are beloved for their crystal waters and soft sands. The sounds of live samba music at nearby restaurants and bars can be heard on the beach, and you can bring cocktails out to your chosen spot on the sand if you’re not ready to abandon your sun lounger. This beach can get a little busy, but the sunset here is worth it. Amenities: food and drink; toilets; water sports. Best for: sunset; swimming.
