2 Best Hotels in Hobart, Tasmania

Background Illustration for Hotels

Hobart has some lovely lodgings in old, historic houses and cottages, most of which have been beautifully restored. If you're seeking more modern conveniences, there are plenty of newer hotels, too.

Hotel Grand Chancellor

$ | 1 Davey St., Hobart, TAS, 7000, Australia

Across the street from the old wharves and steps from some of the most exciting restaurants in Hobart, this imposing glass-and-stone building offers sumptuous accommodation in one of the city's best locations. Although it might seem a bit out of place amid Hobart's colonial-era buildings, what it lacks in period charm, it more than makes up for in contemporary sleekness. All rooms are decorated with clean-lined modern furniture and there's 24-hour room service for late night snack attacks. The corner Executive Suite has knockout harbor views.

Pros

  • Some rooms have fabulous water views
  • Steps away from the waterfront
  • Recently refurbished

Ibis Styles

$ | 173 Macquarie St., Hobart, TAS, 7000, Australia

Despite being part of a big global brand—Ibis Styles falls under the Marriott umbrella—Hobart's Ibis Styles hotel feels surprisingly bespoke. Rooms and common areas include bright bold art, and the colorful ground floor Mr Good Guy restaurant is a fun place to grab a bite. Staff are friendly and attentive and it's an easy walk to the city's big attractions. The top floor rooms have gorgeous views of kunanyi/Mt. Wellington. Rooms are compact but if you're planning to spend more time outside your hotel than inside it's a great value option.

Pros

  • Central location
  • Fitness amenities
  • 24-hour concierge

Cons

  • Many rooms have unexciting views
  • No free parking
  • Breakfast incurs additional fee
