Constitution Dock is the perfect place for yacht-watching, as well as gobbling fresh fish-and-chips from one of the punts (floating fish-and-chips shops) moored on the water. Ask for the daily specials, such as local blue grenadier or trevally, which cost A$7–A$16, or go for some freshly shucked oysters. The city's main restaurant areas include the docks and the streets around Salamanca Place.

Aloft

$$$$ | Hobart Waterfront Fodor's Choice

With its soaring floor-to-ceiling windows and dramatic pitched roof overlooking the Derwent River, it's safe to say that Aloft—the jewel of Brooke Street Pier—enjoys the best views of any restaurant in Hobart. Diners are offered a nine-course tasting menu that is packed with expertly seasoned and prepared Tassie produce, much of which has an intriguing Asian twist. A matched wine option is available, as well as considered vegan alternatives. If you can tear yourself away from the views, a bar seat is a great place to watch the action and chat to the friendly team.

Templo

$$$ | North Hobart Fodor's Choice

With its rustic exposed brick walls, bottles of homemade liqueurs and preserves and blackboard menu, Hobart classic Templo is exactly what you want in a neighborhood restaurants. With only 25 seats, this tiny gem is somewhere you'll need to book weeks if not months ahead, though walk-ins can sometimes snag a last-minute table for lunch sittings. Superb.
