Capri Palace Jumeirah

$$$$ | Via Capodimonte 14, Anacapri, 80071, Italy Fodor's Choice
Capri Palace Hotel & Spa, Capri
Guido Fua

This Anacapri icon with unique design, spa, exquisite food, and luxurious retreat atmosphere throughout has amassed a noted art collection and even launched a fashion and home line and hosted A-list cultural events. Accommodations are individually designed; some pay tribute to fashion inspirations, from Monroe and Callas, others honor famous artists, and still others may have private pools or gardens. The on-site Capri Medical Spa offers both one-off treatments and multiday programs targeting wellness, diet, posture, leg health, and more. Along with a hopping bar and a casual bistro, the dining options include the two-Michelin-star L'Olivo, the rooftop Japanese restaurant Zuma, and Il Riccio Restaurant & Beach Club overlooking the sea.

Pros

  • Noted art collection
  • Stunning (and sometimes surprising) design
  • Award-winning spa and dining

Cons

  • All that glam comes at a price
  • Some may find the quiet Anacapri location removed from the action (and water)

Capri Tiberio Palace

$$$$ | Via Croce 11–15, Capri, 80073, Italy Fodor's Choice
Capri Tiberio Palace, Capri Town and Environs
Preferred Hotels & Resorts

Offering guests comfort, style, luxury, and sigh-inducing views since the 19th century, this hotel is a short walk from the piazzetta—near the action, but not quite in the thick of it. All 23 suites have private terraces, but the clincher is the 1950s Hollywood–inspired Bellevue Suite, with its 360-degree-view rooftop terrace and plunge pool. Three salt-filled golden bowls in the lobby extend a traditional island welcome, and elsewhere Regency-style decor combines local color with international chic. The Terrazza Tiberio restaurant is a local-meets-international gourmet experience, and the white grand piano in the Jacky Bar evokes times past. There's a renowned spa with sensory showers and adjoining gym, or you can simply relax, enjoying the view, drink in hand, immersed in the indoor-outdoor swimming pool.

Pros

  • Friendly staff
  • Pure luxury
  • Fabulous design

Cons

  • No port-to-door guest shuttle
  • The pool is too close to the restaurant
  • Tiny gym

Capri Palace Jumeirah

$$$$ | Via Capodimonte 14, Anacapri, 80071, Italy Fodor's Choice

For the cognoscenti, famous or otherwise, this is the place to stay in Anacapri, thanks to its spa, designer boutique, exceptional restaurants, suites with private pools, and rooms with art or film themes (ask for the Monroe, Callas, or Warhol). The Capri Beauty Farm operates from here. If you can tear yourself away from the hotel, you can avail of one of their private boats. The entrance is hidden behind a long hedge as you leave the town for Villa San Michele, with a corridor of windows showing underwater swimmers and an installation by sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro.

Pros

  • Chic and stylish
  • The only medical spa on the island
  • Capri's only Michelin-star restaurant

Cons

  • Unattractive entrance
  • A bit too close to the center of Anacapri
  • Pricey

Hotel La Palma

$$$$ | Via Vittorio Emanuele 39, Capri, 80073, Italy Fodor's Choice

Now part of the Oetker Collection, Capri's oldest hotel (1822) is fresh off a top-to-bottom renovation by lauded architect Francis Sultana in 2024, and it's now the hottest and most expensive hotel on the island. It began life as the Locando Pagano (once hosting August Kopisch, who "discovered" the Grotta Azzurra), and although it's just down the street from La Piazzetta, it offers respite from the street-level bustle. A white-and-aquamarine color scheme prevails, with frescoes in the lobby, bespoke furnishings, and striped lounge chairs by the pool. Michelin-starred chef Gennaro Esposito has taken the helm of the dining outlets, which include the signature ground-floor restaurant Gennaro's, the rooftop restaurant Bianca, and the beach club Da Gioia by La Palma in Marina Piccola.

Pros

  • The most central of Capri's luxury hotels
  • Extremely attentive staff
  • Lounge chairs at the beach club are reserved for hotel guests

Cons

  • Perhaps too central
  • Rather far from the sea
  • Very expensive, even for Capri

La Minerva

$$$$ | Via Occhio Marino 8, Capri, 80073, Italy Fodor's Choice

A onetime private home, this chic yet friendly small hotel has become a Capri favorite of those seeking intimate luxury, where most of the bright, airy rooms have panoramic terraces—shaded in bougainvillea and with views of the gardens and the sea in the background. Many guests, however, prefer to congregate in the magical garden, where lunch and afternoon granitas are served beside the glorious swimming pool. Wake up to excellent breakfast on the magnificent rooftop terrace served by long-time head waiter Kamal.

Pros

  • Fab views and tranquil ambience
  • Family-run and genuinely warm service
  • Cool, understated design with vibrant artworks

Punta Tragara

$$$$ | Via Tragara 57, Capri, 80073, Italy
Punta Tragara, Capri
Courtesy of Punta Tragara

Designed by Le Corbusier, this former private villa became a satellite headquarters for America's central command during World War II and hosted Churchill and Eisenhower; today, it's one of Capri's most beautiful hotels, with a breathtaking location on Punta Tragara; public areas adorned with baronial fireplaces, gilded antiques, and travertine marble; and guest rooms that are simultaneously sumptuous and cozy-casual. The dreamy garden is a showstopper, with two pools (one jet-powered) beside the idyllic arbor-covered restaurant, Monzù.

Pros

  • Wonderful views of the famed Faraglioni rocks
  • Two gorgeous pools

La Scalinatella

$$$$ | Via Tragara 8, Capri, 80073, Italy

If you're bronzed, beautiful, or both, this is your kind of hotel—a white Moorish mansion that evokes Hollywood-style Capri, complete with hillside terraces (indeed, the name means "little stairway"), winding paths, bougainvillea arbors, and an Architectural Digest opulence. The interior features Venetian blackamoor statues, Empire-era consoles, and Valentino fabrics; guest rooms have overstuffed sofas, bright colors, large terraces, and his-and-her bathrooms (most with whirlpool baths). Outside, one of Capri's bluest pools is the fetching setting for delicious luncheons.

Pros

  • All rooms have a sea view
  • His-and-her bathrooms
  • Heated pool

Cons

  • A bit removed from the center
  • Main pool visible from main road
  • A lot of steps

Mezzatorre Hotel & Thermal Spa

$$$$ | Via Mezzatorre 23, Forio, 80075, Italy

Far from the madding, sunburned crowds—in a sleekly renovated former fortress on Punta Cornacchia above the Bay of San Montano—this luxurious getaway (part of the chic Pellicano Hotels Group) tempts its privileged guests to stay put and relax, with a glamorous heated pool overlooking a storybook cove, fine restaurants, spa treatments, and hundreds of pretty pine and pomegranate trees. Inside, everything is white-on-white, accented with charming retro details, like brass lamps and illustrated matchbooks. Most guest rooms are in the 16th-century Aragonese tower. The restaurants—La Torre and the more laidback, alfresco La Baia—are open to nonguests by reservation.

Pros

  • Tranquil retreat with wonderful views
  • Fab restaurants and spa
  • Private bay, exclusive atmosphere

Cons

Quisisana

$$$$ | Via Camerelle 2, Capri, 80073, Italy

Some say Capri has three villages: Capri Town, Anacapri, and this landmark hotel, which looms large in island mythology, attracts utterly devoted guests, and has an enormous lobby and theater-cum-convention center that are 1930s jewels designed by noted modernist Gio Ponti. The "Quisi" also scores points for its restaurants, see-and-be-seen bars (plug into Capri's network of rich and famous at the Quisi Bar), and convenient location a short walk from the Piazzetta. The clientele is so loyal that even though this is Capri's biggest hotel, it's really hard to get a reservation in high season.

Pros

  • Luxe atmosphere on a large scale
  • Stumbling distance from La Piazzetta
  • Top spa facilities

Cons

  • Patchy service
  • Convention-size and far from cozy
  • Not quite as ritzy as in bygone days

Regina Isabella – Resort Spa Restaurant

$$$$ | Piazza Santa Restituta 1, Lacco Ameno, 80076, Italy

Built in the early 1960s, and home to Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton while they filmed Cleopatra, Ischia's largest luxury hotel is tucked away in an exclusive corner of the beach, where it pampers guests (some attending conventions) with its resort facilities and spa treatments. Rooms are ample and decorated in warm Mediterranean colors, and most have terraces or balconies, some with Jacuzzis, many overlooking the sea, others the hotel gardens. Don't miss the fun of socializing with chic vacationers in the elegant bar or at the Michelin-starred restaurant, Indaco—a meal here is worth it if only for the fabulous views over the harbor.

Pros

  • Central location
  • Considered by locals to be one of the top hotels on the island
  • Michelin-starred restaurant

Cons

  • Not the most elegant of facades
  • Rooms are fairly spartan
  • Pricey

Villa Marina Capri Hotel & Spa

$$$$ | Via Provinciale Marina Grande 191, Capri, 80073, Italy

Housed in an early 20th-century villa, this boutique hotel above Marina Grande amid lush terraced gardens evokes a time when the island was an artists' paradise; most of the sumptuous, modern guest rooms look out over the bay, and each one is individually decorated and named for a Capri luminary. If the sleek hotel's small pool isn't to your liking, choose a suite with a private pool. A shuttle bus meets you at the port, then a welcome drink is served under a shady veranda overlooking the bay, while your luggage is whisked to your room. The Stai Spa offers exclusively designed treatments, while the Ziqù restaurant serves traditional local fare with an original touch.

Pros
