9 Best Hotels in Cozumel, Mexico

Background Illustration for Hotels

Small, one-of-a-kind hotels have long been the norm in Cozumel. Most of the island’s accommodations are on the leeward (western) and south sides of the island, but there’s one peaceful hideaway on the windward (eastern) side. The larger resorts are north and south of San Miguel, while the less expensive places are found in town. Cozumel also has a growing condo rental market. Rates are competitive, and condos are easily found via any of the numerous vacation rental websites.

Casa Mexicana

$$ | Av. Rafael E. Melgar 457, Cozumel, 77600, Mexico Fodor's Choice

Although not on the beach, this distinctive and inexpensive hotel overlooks the water, and its oceanfront rooms, with comfortable balconies from which to enjoy the views, are worth the added cost. Other rooms might face Avenida Rafael E. Melgar, the town's rooftops, or the hotel’s indoor terrace, but all are immaculate and feature bathtubs (a rarity downtown). It all makes for an efficient and pleasant place place to stay in San Miguel, and the rates are surprisingly affordable for all you get—large rooms, free Wi-Fi, and a made-to-order breakfast. It's popular with visitors doing business on the island and those who prefer walking to everything they need.

Pros

  • Near restaurants and shops
  • Friendly staff
  • Substantial breakfast

Cons

  • No beach
  • Tiny pool
  • Some street noise

Cozumel Hotel & Resort

$$ | Carretera Costera Sur, Km 1.7, Cozumel, 77600, Mexico

In high season, guests surround the enormous pool at this bright-orange Wyndham property, while activity directors enliven the crowd with games and loud music. The scene is quieter at the beach club, which is accessed via an under-street tunnel; however, the beach here is a rocky shoreline, not a sandy strand. The large rooms are reminiscent of a moderate chain hotel, with tile floors, comfy beds, and bathtub-shower combos. All-inclusive packages cover not only meals, drinks, taxes, and tips but also a scuba lesson at the hotel's PADI dive center.

Pros

  • Near grocery stores and restaurants
  • 10 fully accessible rooms
  • Breakfast-only option available

Hotel B Cozumel

$$ | Carretera Costa Norte, Km 2.5, Cozumel, 77600, Mexico

This sleek boutique property has quickly become the lodging of choice for a discerning young crowd. (It's plenty fun, if not quite as hip as the next-door Hotel B Unique.) Service is attentive; with so many areas to hang out around the pool and beach, though, catching the waiter's eye can be a challenge. Each room has clean lines and its own Mexican decor elements. The restaurant and bar are perfect for enjoying sunsets. Thanks to the hotel’s amenities, you can start the morning with a yoga class and then retreat to the spa, or spend the day snorkeling and diving.

  • Great snorkeling
  • Close to town and marina
  • Intimate atmosphere

Cons

  • Small sandy beach
