The Best Bar in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador

The well-deserved reputation of St. John's as a party town has been several hundred years in the making. To become an "honorary Newfoundlander," visitors can take part in the screech-in ceremony, which involves reciting the "Screecher’s Creed," kissing a cod, and knocking back a shot of Screech Rum.

George Street

The city's most famous street may be short and cobblestoned, but it is said to have more bars per capita than any other street in North America, approximately two dozen. Trapper John's is one of the more well known (it's also a great place to undertake the screech-in ceremony). Seasonal open-air festivals, which close off the street, include the George Street Festival in August.
