4 Best Hotels in Mount Rainier National Park, Washington

Background Illustration for Hotels

The Mount Rainier area is remarkably bereft of quality lodging. Rainier's two national park lodges, at Longmire and Paradise, are attractive and well maintained. They exude considerable history and charm, especially Paradise Inn, but unless you've made summer reservations a year in advance, getting a room can be a challenge. Dozens of motels, cabin complexes, and private vacation-home rentals are near the park entrances; while they can be pricey, the latter are convenient for longer stays.

Paradise Inn

$$$ | E. Paradise Rd., near Jackson Visitor Center, Mt. Rainier National Park, 98398, USA Fodor's Choice

With its hand-carved Alaskan cedar logs, burnished parquet floors, stone fireplaces, and glorious mountain views, this 1917 inn is a classic example of a national park lodge. German architect Hans Fraehnke designed the decorative woodwork. Rooms are cozy but the spacious lobby feels expansive and welcoming, and service is generally attentive. In addition to the full-service dining room, there's a small snack bar and a snug lounge.

  • Pristine vistas
  • Nature-inspired details

Cons

  • Rooms are small and basic, some have shared bathrooms
  • Parking can be very difficult in the summer
